Barrister Charlotte Proudman has outed a lawyer who called her ‘stunning’ on professional network LinkedIn. Radhika Sanghani doesn’t think she should have gone public.
I have to agree. While I think people should be called out on their sexism, I don’t agree that public shaming (especially via social media) should be part and parcel of the penance for an offence. I don’t think his clumsily written and distasteful e-mail warrants being pilloried on Twitter. In sharing personal experiences on social media, I try to just emphasize and decry the offence as opposed to vilify the person by leaving names out of the discussion unless necessary. But that’s just me.
